FGS Shramadana Campaign to commemorate National Environmental Day 2026

The Faculty of Graduate Studies successfully organized a Shramadana campaign to commemorate National Environmental Day, demonstrating our collective commitment to environmental sustainability and the upkeep of our university premises.

The campaign was held on June 30, 2026, and saw enthusiastic participation from all the staff of the faculty. The initiative was carried out under the esteemed guidance of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Indika Karunathilake, with strategic direction from the Dean of the Faculty, Senior Professor A.A. Azeez, and the Dr. Jinendra Dissanayake, Director of the Centre for Environmental Initiatives (CEI) of the University of Colombo.

The Shramadana campaign was primarily focused on maintaining and enhancing the greenery and environmental health of the faculty surroundings. The key activities carried out during the campaign included

  • Flower Planting – Enhancing the aesthetic value and biodiversity of the faculty landscape by planting new flora.
  • Environmental Cleanup – Thorough cleaning of the surrounding environment to remove debris and maintain a clean workspace.
  • Dengue Prevention – Proactive measures to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, including the cleaning of manholes and drains to ensure health and safety.
